Richard Schuessler

Dr. Richard B. Schuessler received his BS and MS degrees from the University of Missouri-Rolla, Rolla, USA and his Ph.D. from Clemson University, Clemson, USA. Professor of Surgery and Director Emeritus of the Cardiothoracic Surgery Research Laboratory at Washington University. He has 45 years of experience performing human intraoperative mapping studies. These include studies involving both ventricular and supraventricular arrhythmias. Dr. Schuessler has isolated and mapped human hearts. One of his major interests has been in the development of the surgical treatment of cardiac arrhythmias and he was involved in the development of the Maze procedure for atrial fibrillation. Dr. Schuessler has also worked on the development of different ablation technology. He has extensive knowledge and experience in cardiac electrophysiology and the statistical design and analysis of experiments.
