Sergey Kobtsev

Novosibirsk State University Russia

Dr. Sergey Kobtsev received his M. Sc. degree in physics after graduation from the Novosibirsk State University (NSU) in 1982, majoring in Quantum Optics. As early as 1983 his first development of an advanced dye laser was awarded the Silver Medal of the largest Russian high-technology fair. Since then he actively participated in conception and development of more than 200 different lasers and laser systems. These lasers and laser systems are successfully used in research and industrial organisations around the world for solving scientific and applied problems. In 1992 Sergey Kobtsev maintained his Ph. D. degree in physics and mathematics from the Institute of Automation and Electrometry, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the topic of his thesis being "Auto-scanned narrowline dye laser for broad-band spectral studies". Since 1982 Dr. Kobtsev has been working at NSU, and since 1998 he has been heading the Laboratory of Laser Systems of the University (since 2011 - Division of Laser Physics and Innovation Technologies). Dr. Kobtsev supervises graduated students at the NSU's Physics Department as well as post-graduate students. He has tutored and supervised three Ph. D. theses. Dr. Kobtsev is the originator and leader of many successful research projects carried out with support from Russian and international organisations (INTAS, NATO, FP7). In 2010 Sergey Kobtsev maintained his DSc degree in physics and mathematics from the Institute of Automation and Electrometry, Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the topic of his thesis being "Fiber generators of controlled supercontinuum" Dr. Kobtsev is also the President and Founder of two successful University spin-outs, "Tekhnoscan" (founded in 1993) and "Tekhnoscan - Laser Systems" (founded in 2005). Laser products of these companies (Ti:Sapphire/Dye/Yb:KYW/fiber lasers and laser accessories: femtosecond autocorrelators, high-efficient resonant doublers, etc.) is well known and has received universal acclaim. Dr. Kobtsev has published more than 190 scientific papers and has been awarded numerous inventor certificates. He has been a member of the Russian Board of National Experts since 1998, a member of the Russian Laser Association since 1996, and a member of OSA, IEEE and SPIE. In 2003 and in 2008 Dr. Kobtsev was decorated with the Honorary Award of the Novosibirsk City Hall for fruitful work for the benefit of the city.
