Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University Turkey

Övgü Ceyda YELGEL earned her PhD degree in condensed matter physics from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, in 2013. Between 2014 and 2019, Dr. Yelgel worked as a research assistant (Dr) at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, Department of Materials Science and Nanotechnology Engineering, Türkiye. From 2019 to 2023 she worked as an associate professor at Recep Tayyip Erdoğan University, Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Currently, she has been continuing her academic studies as a professor in the same department since 2023. She has several scientific publications to her credit, including journal papers, international conference papers, and book chapters. Dr. Yelgel currently serves as Review Editor for Frontiers in Physics and is an active reviewer for many well-known academic journals (Journal of Applied Physics, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Frontiers in Materials, Journal of Physics and Chemistry of Solids, Intermetallics, Scientific Reports, Philosophical Magazine). Her main research interests include theoretical, and numerical study of electrical and thermal transport mechanisms at micro and nanometer scales with applications to thermoelectric materials; DFT calculations to investigate the structural, electronic and optical properties of low-dimensional materials; theoretical exploration of photocatalytic performance of 2D materials as water-splitting photocatalyst, oxygen vacancy engineering of advanced photocatalysts. Lately, Dr. Yelgel has also been interested in renewable energy systems modelling and forecasting using artificial intelligence techniques.
