George Gericke

He received the MBChB degree in 1972 and the M. Med degree allowing specialization in Paediatrics in 1979, both from the University of Stellenbosch. In the same year, he was admitted as a Fellow of the South African College of Physicians (Paediatrics). After a two year period working as a Senior Research Assistant in the Department of Human Genetics, he completed a doctorate in Human Genetics (MD degree) at the University of Cape Town in 1985. From 1985-1993 he was an Honorary Research Associate at the Brain Function Research Unit, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. From 1989-1996 he was Professor and Chairman; Department of Human Genetics and Developmental Biology at the University of Pretoria and was a corresponding editor of the American Journal of Medical Genetics (1994-1999). During this time he was an inaugural member of the Charles Darwin Associates of the New York Academy of Sciences. From 1999 – 2010 he was a member of the International Tourette Syndrome Genetic Consortium. He retains a lively interest in neurobehavioural genetics and epigenetics and is currently Clinical Head of the Ampath National Reference Laboratory Genetics Unit.
