Mariana Cernicova-Buca

Mariana CERNICOVA-BUCA currently works as an Associate Professor of Communication at the Faculty of Communication Sciences, Politehnica University Timisoara (since 2009). She has a PhD in Philology from the University of the West in Timişoara (Romania) with a thesis on The contemporary journalistic style as a functional style of the Romanian language. Her main research interests include mediated communication, recent history, branding and higher education. She has published a number of 18 books and numerous papers in Romanian and international professional journals. She is also a well-known Romanian publicist, specialised in political and administrative life of the region. Currently she is the president of the Board for Communication Studies at her faculty of affiliation. M. CERNICOVA-BUCA acted as provost of a private university (2004-2008), working towards integrating the University into the European University Association. In 2009-2010, she acted as expert in the team developing the communication sciences (journalism) section for the National Qualifications Framework in Higher Education, in Romania. M. CERNICOVA-BUCA is a member of the European Communication Research and Education Association (ECREA) since 2007 and acted as a European vice-president of the Alliance of Universities for Democracy (AUDEM) (up to 2017).
