I graduated in Material Science Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino in 2004 (summa cum laude) and received my Ph.D. in Electronic Devices at the Politecnico di Torino (Turin, Italy) in 2008. As a Ph.D student my research activity was focused on the development of technological processes for the fabrication of polymeric and silicon based devices. I was involved in the design, fabrication and characterization of LOCs for DNA extraction, amplification and the final detection of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNP) by the Arrayed Primer Extension (APEX) method. During my Ph.D. I spent one year at the Center for NanoTechnology (University of Wisconsin at Madison) directed by Prof. F. Cerrina. From January 2008 to December 2009 I worked as a Post-Doc at the Physics Department of the Politecnico di Torino. My research activity was mainly devoted to microtechnology with particular emphasis to polymer processing by means of lithography, hot embossing, imprinting and casting. A significant investigation has been done on the use of elastomeric materials in all-polymeric LOCs devices and the development of nano-optics for biological detection. Starting from December 1th 2009, I am a researcher of the Center for Space Human Robotics of the Italian Institute of Technology â€“ IIT, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Torino (IIT@POLITO). My research activity is focussed on materials and technology for energy harvesting applications and robotics.
