Professor Catriona M. Steele is the Director of the Swallowing Rehabilitation Research Laboratory at The KITE Research Institute at the University Health Network, and Professor at the University of Toronto. A speech-language pathologist by training, Dr. Steele is particularly known for her use of instrumentation to measure physiological signals in swallowing, including electromyography, electromagnetic articulography and intraoral manometry. She has used surface electromyography as a tool for biofeedback in exercise-based approaches to therapy for people with dysphagia (swallowing disorders). Dr. Steele is a frequent speaker at conferences and professional training courses around the world. She is known for her commitment to evidence based practice.
