Purabi Saikia

Dr. Purabi Saikia is working in the broad areas of plant ecology including population and regeneration ecology, conservation of rare/ endangered plant species, plant-soil interactions, and ecosystem restoration. She is presently working as an Assistant Professor at the Central University of Jharkhand, Ranchi. She is an active member of IUCN-Commission on Ecosystem Management (IUCN-CEM), South Asia, and Global Forests Biodiversity Initiatives (GFBI), USA. She is the recipient of the PHSS Foundation Young Women Leadership Award 2018-2019, Women Scientist Award (Young Category) 2020 of The Society for SCCSE, SERB-Young Scientists 2016, UGC Start-up grants 2014, international travel support scheme from SERB (two times), and DBT Research Associateship. She has been engaged with various R&D projects including the LTEO projects of MoEFCC, Biomass estimation and invasive species mapping projects of ISRO-SAC, Ahmedabad, Plant population mapping project of DBT, DST-FIST program, SERB-Young scientist scheme, and UGC start-up grants. She has published more than 60 research articles in various journals and books including one in Nature.
