I am interested in improving population health. I have background and experience in health-related research, health care, public health, evaluation of health programs; epidemiological investigations, public health surveillance and training of health care and public health workforce. I am a physician with ten years of experience as primary health care physician, medical officer and health care administrator. I have had academic training and 30 years of experience in public health and related research. I have published over 150 peer-reviewed publications and made over 200 scientific presentations in international conferences in medicine and public health. I have developed methodology to prioritize public health problems and improve resource allocation. I have developed and evaluated public health interventions to prevent chronic diseases and promote health. I have prevented spread of epidemics. Since 1990, I have worked with Emory University School of Medicine, Missouri Department of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and University of Missouri School of Medicine. Work included epidemiological investigations, planning and evaluation, health care services, research, informatics, workforce training and administration of population health services and program. Between 2009 and 2017, I was the chief executive officer of EJS Consultoria Ltda., a Brazilian consulting company that provided consultancy in public health and health care. Since May 2016, I have provided consultancy as an independent consultant and sole proprietor. I strive to approach consulting work with fresh ideas but based on established knowledge and evidence. Organizations receiving consultancy work included World Health Organization, Pan-American Health Organization, World Bank, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Federal University of Sao Paulo (Brazil), Instituto de Medicina Infantil de Pernambuco (Brazil), etc. Since October 2011, I have been the Chair and Professor of the Department of Health Management and Informatics of the University of Missouri School of Medicine.
