Almendro-Candel holds a degree in Sciences (Chemistry) from the University of Alicante, after which she spent two and a half years of profession outside academia. After that, she was a research fellow of the Higher Council for Scientific Research, at the Eduardo Torroja Institute of Construction Sciences (Madrid). In 2002 she joined the Department of Agrochemistry and Environment of the Miguel Hernández University of Elche as a research fellow and participated in several contracts and research projects. In October 2005 she became a collaborating professor at the same Department in the area of Chemical Engineering. In 2011, she obtained a doctorate from the Miguel Hernández de Elche University in the Ph.D. program of Agriculture and Environment. Her research is focused on water pollution, soil pollution, pollution by heavy metals, nitrates, and waste reuse.
