Chamhuri Siwar

Chamhuri Siwar is an Emeritus Professor and former Principal Research Fellow at the Institute for Environment and Development (LESTARI), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia or National University of Malaysia (UKM). He was a lecturer for more than 50 years, at the Faculty of Economics at UKM, where he once served as Head of the Department of Agriculture and Resource Economics and also as Principal Research Fellow at the Institute of Environment and Development (LESTARI). He graduated with BA (Hons.) from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, MA from Leeds University (UK), and MSc from Iowa State University, USA, in the areas of applied, Agriculture and Resource Economics. His area of specialization includes Agricultural and Resource Economics, Rural Economics, Environmental Economics, Poverty and Income Distribution, Sustainable Economies, Socioeconomics and Impact Studies, and Sustainable Livelihood. He has published widely in numerous international and local journals and has presented papers and participated in various international and national conferences. As of 2022, he has successfully supervised 55 PhDs and 21 Master's students and has been an external examiner to numerous graduate students in Malaysian and international universities. He has published 32 books, 220 journal papers, 175 chapters in books, and 175 proceedings. His major contributions are in the area of poverty studies.
