Specialist in the environment, with a Ph.D. in Land and Environment, Michela Izzo is an expert in feasibility and environmental impact studies, as well as land vulnerability to climate change, having worked with numerous national and international institutions on the issue. For more than ten years she has been collaborating, as Executive Director of the Dominican NGO Guakía Ambiente, with the GEF Small Grants Programme, accompanying processes of community development based on local empowerment. In this context, she has worked at the construction of more than 40 community micro hydropower systems that are providing electricity to more than 4500 families in isolated rural areas. She is a professor of sustainable development and other environmental related topics at the Pontificia Universidad Católica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM).
