Chitra Shanker

Chitra Shanker is serving as a Principal Scientist (Agricultural Entomology) with the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) at the Indian Institute for Rice Research in Hyderabad, India. She has been working with the ICAR as a full time researcher since 1995 and has since earned her Advanced degree in Agricultural Entomology from TNAU while in service. She worked earlier on the insect interactions and biodiversity analysis in agroforestry. Her major work was on invertebrate biodiversity in rice ecosystem and its potential for natural control of pests. She is now involved in the Rice Knowledge Management Portal on developing a farmer friendly app for pest management decision support in rice and her main focus is now on biocontrol agents for management of rice pests.
