Rodolfo Oviedo

Rodolfo J. Oviedo, MD, FACS, FASMBS, FICS, DABS-FPDMBS graduated from medical school at The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2007, and from Houston Methodist General Surgery Residency Program in 2013. He then joined Hospital Corporation of America (HCA) North Florida Division and became affiliated with Florida State University College of Medicine in Tallahassee, Florida, as Clinical Assistant Professor of Surgery, where he worked as a minimally-invasive general and bariatric surgeon from 2013 to 2017. During this period, he developed his skills as a robotic surgeon. Dr. Oviedo then decided to pursue an Advanced Minimally Invasive Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery Fellowship at Baptist Hospital of Miami in Miami, Florida, from 2017 to 2018. He took a position as a metabolic and bariatric surgeon in Winchester, Virginia, where he built a successful robotic bariatric and complex abdominal wall reconstruction program from 2018 to 2020. He is a board-certified and fellowship-trained metabolic and bariatric surgeon and general surgeon. His areas of expertise include robotic primary and revisional metabolic and bariatric surgery, robotic complex abdominal wall reconstruction, robotic anti-reflux/foregut surgery, flexible endoscopic surgery, and interventional bariatric endoscopy. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (FASMBS), and a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons (FICS). He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery with a Focused Practice Designation in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (DABS-FPDMBS). Dr. Oviedo is certified to perform Interventional Bariatric Endoscopy. He serves on multiple committees at ACS, ASMBS, SAGES, TUGSS, and TROGS. He has written numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters. He is Deputy Editor of Journal of Robotic Surgery, and an Editorial Board Member for Obesity Surgery, official journal of IFSO. He worked at Houston Methodist in the Texas Medical Center from 2020 to 2023, where he served as Director of Robotic General Surgery, Director of Robotic Education at MITIE, Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University, and Adjunct Associate Professor at Texas A&M University College of Medicine. Since 2023, Dr. Oviedo is the Medical Director of Bariatric Surgical Services at Nacogdoches Medical Center in Nacogdoches, Texas, USA, where his commitment to excellence in patient care and the education of the next generation of surgeons continues.
