Dr. Alma Balestrazzi was awarded with her PhD degree in Genetics and Molecular Biology at the University of Pavia, Italy, in 1994. She is an associate professor in plant physiology at the Department of Biology and Biotechnology “Lazzaro Spallanzani,” University of Pavia, Italy, where she is also leading the Plant Biotechnology Laboratory. Her main research topics deal with the role of DNA repair in the plant response to abiotic stresses and enhancement of seed vigor. She coauthored 80 papers in peer-reviewed international journals, books, and proceedings of international and national conferences. She is a member of the International Association for Plant and Cell Tissue Culture & Biotechnology (IAPTC&B) and Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology (FESPB). Moreover, she is an associate editor in the Frontiers in Plant Science, Crop Science and Horticulture section, while being a referee for several international scientific journals.
