Ph.D. FEBO, Helena Buch Hesgaard

Dr Helena Buch Hesgaard is a Senior Consultant at the highly specialized strabismus surgery section, at the eye department, Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Göthenborg, Sweden and Director of the Copenhagen Eye & Strabismus Surgery Clinic, Capio-CFR Hospitals, Copenhagen, Denmark. She is currently board member of the European Strabismological Association (ESA) and member of the ESA Sub-specialty Exam Group as a subdivision of the European Board of Ophthalmology exam board. Dr Buch Hesgaard attained her PhD degree at The University of Copenhagen, Denmark. She has attained award price 2005 for best publication in the Nordic countries and an honour medal 2006 the Lundsgaards medal for the most cited paper during 2004-2006 in Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica. She acquired her Ophthalmological certification and became fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) in 2011, during a fellowship in strabismus surgery of the National University Hospital Rigshospitalet/Glostrup Copenhagen, Denmark. In 2014 She became Senior Consultant, chief of the Strabismus section at the Glostrup Hospital. Dr Buch Hesgaard’s clinical and research interests include adult and childhood strabismus, especially fourth nerve palsy, Brown Syndrome and Duanes Retraction Syndrome. She has been invited to speak on her research results and her technique of strabismus surgery both regionally and internationally. Dr Buch Hesgaard has given more than 70 oral presentations, has written Strabismus book chapters and published 17 original papers in scientific peer review international journals and is at the scientific editorial board of the journal Acta Ophthalmologica Scandinavica.
