Samantha J. Brunt, B.Sc (Hons, UWA) Following on from my B.Sc in biomedical science which was completed during 2012, my PhD work focuses on Cytomegalovirus antibody production in HIV patients. This is an interest of a larger project investigating CMV immunity and how it relates to accelerated aging and increased prevalence of age associated diseases, such as cardiovascular disease. I am continuing investigations into the ‘footprint’ CMV infection leaves on a person’s immune system, focusing on B-cell activation and also prevalence of auto-antibodies relative to CMV antibody. My honours work demonstrated a correlation of high CMV antibody titres and increased risk of cardiovascular disease in HIV patients stable on therapy.
