Ali Al-Ataby

Dr Ali Al-Ataby received his PhD degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Liverpool, UK, in Signal Processing and Machine Learning. He worked in academia from 1997 to 2002 and in industry from 2002-2008, and joined the Department of Electrical Engineering and Electronics at the University of Liverpool as an Assistant Professor in Signal Processing in 2011 and subsequently became an Associate Professor in 2017. In 2015, Dr Al-Ataby received two awards for teaching excellence, including the prestigious Sir Alastair Pilkington award. His research interests are centered on devising automatic interpretation algorithms for non-destructive testing data, with a particular interest in visual, ultrasonic and radar data. Further interests are in biomedical signal processing (e.g. EEG, ECG and DNA data), driver/operator fatigue detection and prediction, and in devising visual augmentation tools to assist people with varying degrees of vision loss. Other research interests include machine learning, hardware signal processing, embedded systems and FPGAs. He is also active in Technology Enhanced Education and Pedagogical Research.
