Jovan Mitrović

Professor Dr.-Ing. Jovan Mitrovic was a professor and Head of the Department of Thermal Process Engineering and Plant Technology at the University Paderborn, and a profes¬sor in Technical Thermo¬dynamics and Thermal Process En¬gineering at the Univer¬sity Stuttgart, both in Germany. After his retirement, he ac¬cepted a position of a visiting professor at the University in East Sarajevo, Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, lecturing Thermo/Fluid Ener¬getic in Higher Educa¬tion Programme. He received his de¬gree in Me¬chanical En¬gineering from the University of Bel¬grade (Yugoslavia), and PhD (Dr.-Ing.) from the University Stuttgart, Ger¬many. His main research interests are transport phenomena with phase transitions, falling films heat transfer, and heat trans¬fer improvement. He is author/co-au¬thor of more than 120 papers published in refe¬reed journals; in 2004 he edited the book Heat Exchanger and Condenser Tubes. Professor Mitrovic is a member of the Editorial Board of Chemical Engineering and Tech¬nology. He has supervised/co-su¬pervised over 20 PhD Theses and over 120 Diploma/Master Dissertations.

Selecting and bringing together matter provided by specialists, this project offers comprehensive information on particular cases of heat exchangers. The selection was guided by actual and future demands of applied research and industry, mainly focusing on the efficient use and conversion energy in changing environment. Beside the questions of thermodynamic basics, the book addresses several important issues, such as conceptions, design, operations, fouling and cleaning of heat exchangers. It includes also storage of thermal energy and geothermal energy use, directly or by application of heat pumps. The contributions are thematically grouped in sections and the content of each section is introduced by summarising the main objectives of the encompassed chapters. The book is not necessarily intended to be an elementary source of the knowledge in the area it covers, but rather a mentor while pursuing detailed solutions of specific technical problems which face engineers and technicians engaged in research and development in the fields of heat transfer and heat exchangers.
