03 October 2018

The 2018 Nobel Prize for Physics was jointly awarded to three academics for groundbreaking inventions in the field of laser physics. Half of the prize went to Arthur Ashkin of Bell Labs, and the other half to Gérard Mourou of École Polytechnique, Palaiseau, and the University of Michigan and Donna Strickland of the University of Waterloo for their  ‘tools made of light’, which have revolutionised laser physics.

Gérard Mourou is an author of a chapter in Coherence and Ultrashort Pulse Laser Emission, on Second Harmonic Generation Under Strong Influence of Dispersion and Cubic Nonlinearity Effects.

IntechOpen CEO Anke Beck said: “Congratulations to our author Gérard Mourou on his Nobel Prize this week. We are extremely proud to have published with him earlier in his career and even prouder that it is open access and therefore available for anyone to read and enjoy.”
