Yik- Hong Ho

Yik-Hong Ho is currently the Professor of Surgery and Head of Surgery at the James Cook University, North Queensland, Australia, where he is also the Chairman of the Board of Studies of the School of Medicine and Dentistry. He graduated from the University of Queensland and holds a higher doctorate in Medicine from that university. He is a member of the Australia New Zealand Colorectal Surgical Society and is an International Fellow of the American College of Colon & Rectal Surgeons. Yik-Hong heads the colorectal surgical services at the Townsville Hospital and the Mater Hospital Pimlico. He is actively involved in colorectal surgical training as well as in academic supervision of postgraduate research doctorate degrees. His contributions to the medical literature include over 180 peer reviewed primary publications and 26 textbook chapters. He is associate editor for International Surgery and chairman of the editorial board for Techniques in Coloproctology, Yik-Hong is a member of several medical societies and is presently the World Corporate Secretary of the International College of Surgeons.

In recent years, significant progress in colorectal surgery has been made which includes laparoscopic techniques, pre-operative management, emergency colorectal surgery, fast track multimodal recovery, management of complex wound problems and colorectal cancer follow-up. "Contemporary Issues in Colorectal Surgical Practice" aims to bridge the gap between the journal article and the traditional textbook in these areas.
