Stavros Sifakis

Dr Sifakis is a consultant in Obstetrics and gynecology, and a Director of the Maternal Fetal Medicine Unit, the University Hospital of Heraklion, Crete, Greece. He was trained for three years in Prenatal Diagnosis and Fetal Medicine at the University of Connecticut, CT, USA, and at the Kings’ College Hospital, London, UK. He has published more than 100 research articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and has participated in more than 350 presentations in medical congresses. Dr Sifakis is a member of the Board of the Hellenic Society in Perinatal Medicine. His research has been awarded several times and is focused on the aetiopathogenesis of preeclampsia and fetal growth restriction, antenatal diagnosis of rare genetic syndromes, and non-invasive prenatal diagnosis by the use of free fetal DNA and fetal cells in the maternal circulation and the endocervical canal.
