Biography

Dr. Ismail M. M. Rahman began his academic career as a Lecturer at the University of Chittagong in Bangladesh, eventually advancing to the rank of Professor before opting for voluntary retirement. His tenure included appointments in the Department of Chemistry from October 2002 to March 2012 and in the Department of Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from March 2012 to September 2015. Following his tenure at Chittagong, he joined the Institute of Environmental Radioactivity at Fukushima University, Japan, where he has held the position of Professor since April 2024, after serving as an Associate Professor from October 2015 to March 2024. In addition to his primary academic roles, Dr. Rahman has been an honorary Collaborative Professor at Kanazawa University in Japan since March 2015. His association with Kanazawa University includes roles as Visiting Research Professor from December 2014 to August 2015 and JSPS Postdoctoral Research Fellow from April 2012 to March 2014. He was a TokyoTech-UNESCO Research Fellow at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in Japan from October 2004 to September 2005. Prior to his academic pursuits, he worked in management at Coats Bangladesh Ltd., part of the global operations of Coats PLC, UK, from May 2001 to October 2002. Dr. Rahman earned his Ph.D. in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from Kanazawa University in 2011. He also holds a Diploma in Environment from the Tokyo Institute of Technology, obtained in 2005, and an M.Sc. degree in Applied Chemistry and a B.Sc. degree in Chemistry from the University of Chittagong. Dr. Rahman\'s research focuses on the investigation of environmental pollutants in the biosphere, with a particular emphasis on their behavior and fate. He is dedicated to developing eco-friendly and energy-efficient technologies for environmental remediation and sustainable waste management practices, including the treatment, handling, reuse, and disposal of solid waste. His expertise also encompasses the study of organic liquid mixtures and their interactions, with potential applications in process engineering design.

Biography

Zinnat A. Begum received her Ph.D. in Environmental Analytical Chemistry from Kanazawa University in 2012. She achieved her Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree with a major in Applied Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Chemistry, all from the University of Chittagong, Bangladesh. Her work affiliations include Fukushima University, Japan (Visiting Research Fellow, Institute of Environmental Radioactivity: Mar 2016 to present), Southern University Bangladesh (Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering: Jan 2015 to present), and Kanazawa University, Japan (Postdoctoral Fellow, Institute of Science and Engineering: Oct 2012 to Mar 2014; Research fellow, Venture Business Laboratory, Advanced Science and Social Co-Creation Promotion Organization: Apr 2018 to Mar 2021). The research focus of Dr. Zinnat includes the effect of the relative stability of metal-chelator complexes in the environmental remediation process designs and the development of eco-friendly soil washing techniques using biodegradable chelators.
