About the book

Deep Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) is a serious condition that can lead to life-threatening complications. It requires rapid diagnosis and prompt initiation of treatment with anticoagulant drugs. This book will cover all important aspects of VTE, from an overview of the various diagnostic procedures for accurate and efficient identification of VTE, existing and new promising anticoagulant drugs and therapeutic regimens for VTE management, to factors contributing to VTE recurrence. The first part of the book will discuss the role of preclinical evaluation, laboratory testing, and imaging techniques in making a definitive diagnosis of VTE. This is followed by a hot topic on new and emerging anticoagulant drugs. After decades of prevalent use of heparin and vitamin K antagonists, drug development did not stop at direct oral anticoagulants targeting thrombin and factor Xa. New types of drugs, such as aptamers and antisense DNA oligonucleotides, which target coagulation factors other than thrombin and factor Xa, are being investigated in clinical trials. In addition, the treatment of VTE in specific patient populations will be addressed, including individualized treatment strategies based on patient-specific factors, risk stratification, choice of anticoagulant and duration of therapy. Finally, the role of established and emerging thrombophilic factors and their influence on VTE recurrence rates will be discussed. The book "Advances in Diagnosis and Treatment of Deep Venous Thromboembolism" will be an invaluable resource for healthcare professionals involved in the care of VTE patients. It will provide a comprehensive and up-to-date overview of the latest diagnostic and treatment approaches, enabling clinicians to provide optimal care for their patients.
