Fasting Physiological Effects Caloric Restriction Endocrine Regulation Cardio-Metabolic Diseases Insulin Resistance

About the book

Fasting and caloric restriction regimens have proven their beneficial effects on health and lifespan, along with their potential application in managing chronic metabolic diseases, acquiring increasing attention from the medical perspective due to their therapeutic benefits beyond traditional religious or cultural contexts. This interest has led to extensive research aimed at understanding the physiological, biochemical, and clinical implications of fasting on human health. Across various fasting regimens, ranging from intermittent fasting, where individuals alternate between periods of eating and fasting, to prolonged fasting, lasting several days or more, clinical research has revealed profound effects on metabolism, cellular processes, and overall health. The book "Insights Into the Therapeutic Applications of Fasting" will aim to delve into the multifaceted aspects of fasting through a comprehensive examination of scientific literature and clinical studies, with the goal of elucidating the mechanisms underlying the therapeutic potential of fasting and exploring its applications in various medical conditions. Our exploratory journey will begin with an overview of the physiological responses to fasting, including changes in metabolism, hormone regulation, and cellular repair mechanisms. We will continue with emerging evidence supporting the use of fasting as a therapeutic intervention for a range of health conditions, including obesity, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. Furthermore, we plan to highlight the potential role of fasting in promoting longevity and cognitive function, as well as its impact on immune function, inflammation, and gut health. Throughout the book, we will concentrate on providing insights into the efficacy, safety, and practical considerations surrounding fasting as a medical intervention. By synthesizing current knowledge and perspectives on fasting from diverse fields of study, this book will aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of its therapeutic applications, update healthcare professionals about its potential benefits and limitations, and nevertheless to foster informed discussions and further research into the role of fasting in promoting human health and well-being.
