Scope

The study of pharmacology encompasses a wide array of fundamental inquiries, ranging from the mechanisms by which drugs exert their effects to the complexities of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and elimination within the human body. It responds to critical questions related to drug safety, dosage optimization, and the mitigation of potential side effects, all of which are of paramount importance in clinical practice. This is particularly addressed through the important branch of clinical pharmacology.
Pharmacology extends its influence across a broad spectrum of applications, from the development of novel therapeutic agents, as biologic drugs to the optimization of treatment regimens for a diverse range of medical conditions, initiating novel challenges as the one represented by chronopharmacology. Its impact persists from the laboratory bench to the patient's bedside, guiding the rational use of drugs and therapeutics.
This series on Pharmaceutical Science embarks on an exploration of pharmacology, offering a comprehensive and in-depth perspective on this multifaceted field. It delves into its basic principles, modern advancements, and future horizons. With each volume, experts in the field will elucidate specific aspects of pharmacology, from classical pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics to the emerging frontiers of pharmacogenomics and personalized medicine. By delving into the intricate science underpinning drug actions, the principles of rational drug design, and the challenges posed by issues such as drug resistance and adverse reactions, the Pharmacology topic aims to provide a comprehensive resource in the medical and pharmaceutical domain. Through this exploration, we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the indispensable role of pharmacology in pharmaceutical sciences and its enduring impact on human health and general well-being.
