Dr. Simon Welham is a nutritional physiologist at the University of Nottingham. He initially completed a degree in zoology from Royal Holloway and Bedford New College and moved on to study for a Ph.D. in human nutrition at the University of Southampton, focusing on understanding the impact of maternal undernutrition during pregnancy on offspring health outcomes. He continued this work in two postdoctoral positions exploring the impact on fetal renal development at the Institute of Child Health and the role of maternal nutrition on the regulation of the offspring epigenome at the William Harvey Research Institute. His work now centers on the drivers of undernutrition, health outcomes, and nutrient dynamics with a specific focus on mineral micronutrients.
