IntechOpen Sponsors OA Switchboard Initiative

We are pleased to announce the sponsorship and active participation in the OA Switchboard books pilot initiative along with other key industry partners. This initiative is an independent, community-driven intermediary dedicated to streamlining and simplifying Open Access book publishing for all stakeholders. The OA Switchboard pilot aims to simplify the sharing of information and metadata between stakeholders about OA book publications throughout the whole publication journey.

The increased awareness of OA Books has prompted more research funders and institutions to develop OA Books policies. This has led to a complex landscape with numerous overlapping business models, agreements, policies, and systems, which are already posing serious implementation challenges.

As an academic publisher, we aim to support authors in complying with these policies and mandates. We also strive to provide a way for authors to access available funds for OA Book initiatives and cover book (chapter) publication costs, as well as to facilitate reporting on OA publication output.

Since our inception, IntechOpen has been a strong advocate and a pioneer for Open Access book publishing. We are thrilled to support the OA Switchboard initiative, further demonstrating our commitment to supporting the open access ecosystem, community, and its cross stakeholder initiatives.

About OA Switchboard

The OA Switchboard is a mission-driven, community led initiative designed to simplify the sharing of information between stakeholders about open access publications throughout the whole publication journey. It creates a standardised messaging protocol and reporting tool between publishers, institutions, and funders in order to facilitate the fulfilment of open access strategies across business models, policies and agreements. The goal is to achieve a breakthrough in the transformation of the market such that Open Access is supported as the predominant model of publication.
