About the book

Stereo Vision, analogous to the human visual system, is one of the most studied topics of computer science involving the estimation of three-dimensional (3D) structural information from two perspective views of the scene. Theory and techniques in the domain of stereo vision are continuously evolving. Novel and innovative ideas are emerging every day including bioinspired neuromorphic stereo vision, active stereo vision on a chip, and employment of deep learning capabilities. Stereo vision has also extended its reach to a number of applications including medical-surgical robotics, human and animal gate and pose estimation, live virtual and constructive training simulators, human perception in teleoperations, ecological behavior monitoring of organisms and trusted autonomy. This evolving nature of stereo vision dictates the need for a series of reference books published on regular intervals to keep the interested readers and emerging scientists up to date and at the top of the advancements in the field.

This book is an attempt to cater to this knowledge and information thirst. This book is a new edition of the open-access stereo vision book collection published by IntechOpen and will be a great resource for students, academics and industries, alike.

About the editor

Asim Bhatti

Deakin University

Associate Professor Asim Bhatti is affiliated with the Institute for Intelligent Systems Research and Innovation at Deakin University, Australia. He has pioneered and leads the area of Neural and Cognitive Systems at Deakin University, a highly emerging and multidisciplinary field of research. This involves functional characterization of the brain, at the neuronal network as well as cell level, in response to external stimuli including pharmaceuticals and/or infections, such as viruses. This research also involves behavioral quantification of organisms, such as mosquitoes, in their natural habitat using computer vision and deep learning algorithms. A/Prof Bhatti has been involved in over $40 million research income to Deakin University through numerous competitive grants, industry, and Australian Defense collaborations. Prof Bhatti has edited four (4) and authored two (2) books. He has published over 100 scholarly publications including over 28 Journals, 13 Book chapters, over 60 international conference papers, and 2 worldwide patents. He has authored over 150 commercial-in-confidence peer-reviewed technical reports to industry and government organizations paving the way for improved product and process quality, health and safety, and ergonomics through technological innovations. Prof Bhatti is also a recipient of a number of awards including Gold Medal in Mobility Engineering Excellence Awards (2016) by SAE Australasia, a finalist in SAE Automotive Engineering Excellence Awards (2010, 2011) and Prestigious Australian Endeavor Fellowship (2011).

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Jasna Bozic

As an Author Service Manager, my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
