Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common arthropathy causing pain and if symptoms persist they can lead to disability. Clinically, it is characterized by a progressive loss of articular cartilage and remodeling of the underlying bone remodeling due to a combination of an active response of chondrocytes and the inflammatory cells in the surrounding tissues. Recent research place greater emphasis to promotes our understanding of the OA pathophysiology. A variety of risk factors have been identified. These include gender, traumatic injury, obesity, metabolic dysfunction, nutrition, mechanical factors, and environmental and genetic factors. Extensive research over the past 20 years provided a better understanding, diagnosis, and management of OA. The first part of this book deals with the current progress of OA imaging diagnosis and treatments. The second part discusses how exercise could benefit those with OA. The third part explores potential shreds of evidence of medicinal plants in the strategies for disease prevention.
