Hypnosis can be a powerful and effective therapeutic technique for a wide range of conditions, including pain, anxiety and mood disorders, in which clinicians make suggestions to the patients to relax and focus their minds, and to change their habits, such as quitting smoking by creating a highly relaxed state of inner concentration and focused attention. Hypnosis can sometime be more effective than non-hypnotic interventions. Hypnotherapy can provide analgesia, reduce stress, relieve procedural anxiety, improve sleep, improve mood. Cognitive hypnotherapy refers to an empirically-based approach using cognitive behavioral therapy to achieve an integrative approach to clinical hypnosis. This book intends to reevaluate hypnosis and hypnotherapy in the light of brain sciences findings, trying to explain the scientific mechanism of hypnosis, the assessment and techniques used in clinical practice.
