About the book
The main objective of book project is to give a clear and concise summary of the operation which redefined the field of congenital heart surgery - fontan surgery. The book will discuss the anatomy of fontan circulation, its selection criteria of patients and pre-operative work. It will include topics of the physiology of fontan circulation, effects of systemic venous hypertension, cyanosis and collateral formation and discuss the operative steps of the procedure, the various stages and patients' progress from one stage of the procedure to the next one. Furthermore, complications and management shall also be discussed. Since nowadays, there are many adult fontan patients, this book will also focus on management of these adult patients after fontan procedure including medical review for other situations with pregnancy and contraception. The book will describe various modalities of medical management and pulmonary vasodilator therapy.
