About the book

Laser ablation is a unique process for thermally or nonthermally removing atoms from a solid surface in a controlled fashion by irradiating it with a high fluence, short wavelength and short pulse (ns-fs) duration of laser beam. The laser ablation process can be used for drilling holes through very hard materials; for machining material surface to create micro- and nano-features or patterns; for vaporizing materials to produce thin film surface coatings and synthesize various nanomaterials like nanoparticles and nanotubes; for removing contaminants or impurities on the surface of materials; for the chemical compositional analysis of solids; and for surface modification of materials including laser transformation hardening, laser remelting strengthening, laser shock peening, laser glazing, laser surface alloying, and laser cladding. Advantages of laser processing of materials are simplicity, versatility, reliable and cost-effective.

This book will cover the most recent research and development of utilizing laser ablation phenomenon for material processing and analysis through a number of original research studies and literature reviews.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: February 12th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dongfang Yang received his Ph.D. in Physical Chemistry from the University of Guelph in 1995. He joined the National Research Council of Canada in London, Ontario in 2001 and is now a Senior Research Officer. His current research interests include laser materials processing; pulsed laser, sputtering and e-beam deposition of thin films; new materials development for energy storage devices; chemical and optical sensors development; and electrochemical studies of organic adsorption and self-assembly monolayer. He is currently serving as a member of the editorial board for eight scientific journals including 'The Research & Reviews in Electrochemistry”, 'Current Chemical Research” and journal 'Sensors & Transducers”. He also holds an Adjunct Professorship at both Lakehead University and Western University in Ontario, Canada.

r. Hülya Şenol graduated from the Biology Department, Atatürk Education Faculty at Marmara University, Turkey in 1991. She has completed two master degrees, one in the field of Educational Sciences, Eastern Mediterranean University, Cyprus and one in Molecular Medicine, Near East University, Cyprus. Dr. Şenol holds a Ph.D. degree in Educational Administration, Management, Inspection, and Economy. She is a multidisciplinary researcher and has 28 years of teaching experience. From 1991 to 2011, she worked at many colleges in Turkey and in North Cyprus as an instructor, ISO 9001 committee member, and deputy principal. Dr. Şenol is a senior instructor in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Eastern Mediterranean University. She has earned many certificates about the education of trainers in Montessori education, educational sciences, and molecular medicine. Her current research interest areas are Educational Leadership, School Culture, Total Quality Management in Education, Service Quality in Education.
