About the book
The importance of zirconia in materials science and technology is undeniable. Zirconia-based compounds properties have been explored in a vast field of technological applications such as composites, high density grinding media, medical prostheses, among several others. The mechanical and thermal properties of zirconia-based compounds (high mechanical strength and fracture toughness at room temperature, low conductivity, and high expansion coefficient) have been exhaustively explored in the literature due to their importance to its most common applications. However, there are other very important properties in zirconia-based compounds, such as electrical and optical properties, which allow the development of technological devices, such as gas sensors, optical coatings and clean energy generation using the fuel cell technology, that is already present and improving our daily lives. This book intends to provide the reader with a comprehensive overview of the current state-of-the-art of the zirconia-based compounds regarding its electrical and optical/spectroscopic properties, as well as to present the current stage and future trends for the development of technological devices.
