About the book

The main objective of this book is to show the different benefits of using materials of construction within a sustainable context. As these benefits can be environmental, economic or social, the materials of construction are assessed with different tools and methods. Thereby, the assessments are carried out in terms of design, structure, thermal comfort, life cycle, greenhouse gases mitigation and social development, among many others, considering social, architectural and engineering aspects. Therefore, the technical feasibility, affordability and penetration upon the society, mainly, are analyzed for their correct installation and performance. Furthermore, various approaches are considered to assess the implementation and performance of the materials considering different aspects such as occupants, government, private companies and climate conditions. Moreover, the approaches can be analyzed at different levels of the society, from a single dwelling, using tools such as building simulation and experimental analysis, to an urban level, using approaches such as a top-down and bottom-up studies.

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: November 1st 2019

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: December 31st 2019

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: March 20th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: May 19th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Ivan Oropeza-Perez

Ivan Oropeza-Perez has his background in Bachelor of Energy Engineering by Metropolitan Autonomous University (Mexico), Master in Energy Engineering by National Autonomous University of Mexico (Mexico) and Ph.D. in Civil Engineering by Aalborg University (Denmark). He has expertise in thermal comfort on buildings, passive cooling systems and sustainable architecture. The main purpose of his research is to achieve a proper indoor environment while saving energy and water. This is, of course, to help to counter global warming. He has written a book regarding natural ventilation within buildings and several research articles with similar topics. He has participated in dozens of international conferences around the world presenting works with the aforementioned subjects. Currently is an Associate Professor in the Architecture Department of the Universidad de las Americas Puebla in Mexico. Is the president of the International Building Performance Simulation Association affiliate Mexico (IBPSA-Mexico), a fellow of the Mexican National Solar Energy Association (ANES, initials in Spanish), and a fellow of the Mexican National Researchers System of the Mexican National Council of Science and Technology (SNI-CONACYT, initials in Spanish).
