About the book

High energy radiation has been widely studied in a broad range of applications in life science and industry. It has also been an important tool in numerous research fields. The aim of this book is to provide the reader with an overview of the sources of high energy radiation, their productions and applications. It will feature comprehensive reviews on popular techniques in research and applications and focus on the latest developments in each field. The topics of the book will cover production of high energy radiation including gamma rays, x-rays and high energy particles using accelerators or nuclear reactions, applications of high energy radiation in materials science, nuclear science as well as medicine, life science and industry. The book intends to present the latest developments and the current state-of-the art in production, instrumentation and applications of gamma rays, high energy x-rays, ion beams and neutrons. It will hopefully be of interest to novices and experts in the area of high energy radiation as it will address the real obstacles to state of the art applications, and should help define future research directions.

Review results due: March 12th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: May 11th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Bowling Green State University

Farida Selim has a broad research program in the fields of radiation and materials. Her research covers a wide range of topics from developing new techniques and instrumentation, material growth and characterization to defect studies. She is an expert on positron annihilation and luminescence spectroscopies and has been very active in using accelerators in materials science, and developing new techniques. Selim has earned international recognition in a number of scientific communities that has been reflected in selecting her to be a member of the International Scientific Committee of Positron and Positronium Chemistry (PPC), a member of the International Advisory Committee on Positron Studies of Defects (PSD), and a member of the International Advisory Committee of the International Conference on Positron Annihilation (ICPA). She has been also a Secretary of the International Academic Advisory Committee on 'Persistent and Photostimulable Phosphors” in 2015. She was the organizer and chair of the largest positron conference ICPA- 18 in August 2018 and she has been selected to host and chair the International Workshop on ZnO and other oxide semiconductors in September 2020. Selim is an editor of a scientific book, author of a number of peer reviewed journal articles and three book chapters and sole inventor of 5 patents, 2 issued and 3 pending, in addition to her significant invention at the beginning of her career Accelerator-based positron annihilation spectroscopy” technique which extends positron annihilation spectroscopy to numerous new fields in materials science. The technique is known today as Gamma induced positron spectroscopy (GIPS); it has been recently adopted to build a unique materials research facility at the superconducting accelerator facility in Dresden, Germany and similar facilities in Japan and India.
