To care for sports-related injuries is a distinctive honor and a remarkable challenge. A variety of healthcare providers may provide care to a diverse patient population from pediatric to senior athletes and weekend warriors to professionals. This book is designed to provide a comprehensive overview of sports medicine-related injuries. There has been a growing body of literature in the field of sports medicine over the last several years. This text hopes to provide additional insights as well as reveal existing controversies in this ever-growing field. Whether one is a busy primary care provider exposed to a variety of musculoskeletal ailments in the ambulatory setting, a trauma or orthopedic surgeon dealing with a potentially life or death situation, or a certified athletic trainer or physical therapy who aims to sharpen their diagnostic and evaluative capabilities or further their sports medicine knowledge, this book aims to provide the highest-quality up-to-date information and more.

Date completed: March 30th 2022

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: June 9th 2022

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: August 8th 2022

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: October 27th 2022

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: December 26th 2022

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Dr. Thomas Wojda is currently a Primary Care Sports Medicine Fellow at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center and University Orthopedics Center based in Johnstown and Altoona Pennsylvania respectively. In addition, he is board certified in Family Medicine and holds a Master's in Business Administration with a concentration in leadership. At this time he has co-authored over 70 publications and hold numerous leadership roles on a local, regional, national, and international level. Dr. Wojda's area of expertise includes: primary care, sports medicine, musculoskeletal ultrasound, chronic disease management, hospital medicine, and medical leadership.
