About the book

The development of science and material science occurs in a very rapid mode. While analytical chemistry can explain a lot of root area changes and development of materials, then more effort to follow, imitate and emulate the steps of natural synthesis and development are feasible. This book aims to discuss progress in medicinal chemistry rooting from the presence of chalcones, a group of chemical compounds that has several key-function to biological activities in plants. The important function in plant biochemistry processes, in modern time, is modified to certain purposes, to be extracted for similar functions in other living bodies, or to be explored with many angles for many important innovative syntheses, leading to new compounds or advanced materials with new biologically important functionalities. A computational approach is also important in applications in medicinal work. The work of synthetical and analytical chemistry in medicinal experimentation will follow some other new rules concerning ethical aspects, from medicine point of view.

Surjani Wonorahardjo

State University of Malang

Surjani Wonorahardjo is currently a lecturer in State University of Malang (Universitas Negeri Malang, Indonesia), teaches Analytical Chemistry Courses in Undergraduate as well as Postgraduate Chemistry Departments. She completed her Ph.D. degree in Chemistry in 1999 from The University of New South Wales, Australia, prior to another research journey in analytical chemistry, as a Humboldt fellow at Sektion Kernresonanspektroskopie, Universitaet Ulm, Germany until 2002. Her wide interest about nature, ranging from chemistry to science point of view, makes her work in more area of applications possible, such as in food analytics and agriculture, biomaterials, environment as well as chemistry educations and science philosophy. The keyword 'innovation” from related concepts in education to applicable materials finds its meaning in the work of chemistry, and for serving humanity too.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Mr. Vice Matušan

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
