About the book
Biotechnologies have been widely used in mining and metallurgical industry, especially biohydrometallurgy, which is an important technology in processing low grade and complex ores mainly due to its environmental and low-cost advantages, mainly including sulfide and nonmetallic ores. Biotechnologies are also widely used in processing wastes produced during the mining and metallurgical production. For example, biohydrometallurgy plays an important role in processing solid wastes and secondary resources, such as waste rocks, tailings, electronic wastes, spent catalyst, sludge, sediment, fly ash, smelter wastes, etc. It has also been used as an important bioremediation technology of contaminated land in mining and metallurgical sites. Wastewater produced during the mining and metallurgical production is commonly treated by biotechnology for metal recovery, contaminant removal and water recycle. In addition, bioprocessing of minerals resources is an important method for (bio)materials preparation. Hence, we sincerely invite contributions to this book on aspects covering recent advances and innovations of biotechnologies in the mining and metallurgical industry, including both industrial production and related environmental production.
