About the book

Photochemistry and Photophysics” (P&P) are an integral part of our daily life; starting from naturalprocesses like photosynthesis, photochemical reactions in the atmosphere to photoinduced reactions in retinas of our eyes which generates a vision, it rules everywhere. That’s why P&P is as old as our world and shall prevail as a central branch of science in the coming days. The topic is vast as it starts from the interaction between light and matter and spreads over various disciplines of core sciences, such as chemistry, physics, material science, biology, and so on. At present, from the application in medicine (e.g., photodynamic therapy) to various materials-based devices (such as solar cells) exploit P&P immensely. In continuation of our effort to have better understanding and as well as to keep in pace with the recent development in this ever-growing field, we would like to focus in this proposed book entitled “Photochemistry and Photophysics: Recent Advances” as follows: i) fundamentals of P&P starting from the light-matter interactions, ii) P&P of molecules to supramolecules and metal complexes, iii) Photochemistry in atmosphere, iv) Recent developments in techniques to study the photophysical processes, iv) Modern synthetic photochemistry, v) Recent development in State of the Art techniques to identify the intermediates of photochemical reactions, vi) Photophysics of Carbon Dots, Nanotubes, Perovskite Materials, vii) photophysics happening in lasing materials, plasmonic organic solar cells, and nevertheless in viii) applications of P&P in various fields.

Publishing process

Satyen Saha

Banaras Hindu University

Born in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta) in India, Satyen Saha received B.Sc. (Chemistry honors, 1994) and M.Sc. (Chemistry, 1996) from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He received his Ph.D. (Photochemistry, 2002) from Hyderabad Central University, Hyderabad, India under the supervision of Prof. Anunay Samanta. Subsequently he moved to Department of Chemistry, University of Tokyo, Tokyo for post doctoral research (2002–2005) in the group of Prof. Hiro-o Hamaguchi, followed by post doctoral research work with Prof. Richard Wiess, Georgetown University, Washington DC, USA. He was the recipient of JSPS post doctoral fellowship and JSPS bridge fellowship for the foreign researcher. At present he is an Associate Professor in department of Chemistry, Institute of Science, Banaras Hindu University (central university), Varanasi, India. His present research interests are: synthesis, structure (solid and liquid phase) and interactions in ionic liquids, NIR emitting materials, high energy density materials, and photophysical studies (steady and time-resolved) of fluorescent molecules in condensed and solid states and their Photochemistry.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Mr. Josip Knapic

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copy-editing and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
