About the book

This book aims to explain the newly developed numerical and analytical methods by describing their solutions, and additionally by including experimental studies in which the solutions of basic problems for mechanics of solids will be proposed. Mechanics of solids problems will be discussed in two main groups; solutions of truss, beam, plate and shell type structures under static-loading and dynamic-loading. In order to make mathematical models easier to understand and to make them simpler, modelling can be performed in terms of plane stress, plane strain, axisymmetric and symmetric conditions. The content of this book is imagined as grouped under six main headings, by taking into account six basic areas where scientific knowledge is required and also by evaluating newly developed analytical solutions, experimental applications and numerical solution techniques. In the first part, experimentally obtained new empirical formulations will be considered. The second and third parts of the book will comprise the solutions of static and dynamic analysis of the structures in macro and micro scales respectively. In the fourth section, problems of fiber composite materials will be presented; in the fifth part, special eigenvalue problems; and in the sixth section, in the field of engineering, the aim is to provide nonlinear analysis of physical problems and to explain the new structural elements that are created accordingly.

Gazi University

Ezgi Günay is an associate professor at the department of Mechanical Engineering, Gazi University Engineering Faculty, in Turkey. She graduated from Engineering Sciences Department (Applied Mechanics) of Engineering Faculty at the Middle East Technical University (1985), and received her PhD degree at Gazi University, Mechanical Engineering Department (1996). She worked as a research assistant (1993-1999) and an assistant professor (1999-2010) at the same department. She currently teaches computer programming, engineering mathematics, statics, dynamics, strength of materials, numerical analysis, finite element analysis and elasticity. She has more than 25 years of experience working for the academia. Dr. Günay authored about 40 papers for the most part published in international conference proceedings and international journals. She is an author of two text books and two scientific book chapters. She is a reviewer for several international journals and scientific associations. Her research interests include finite element analysis of fiber composite shell and plate structures, microcomposites, nanocomposites, experimental and numerical studies on wood materials.
