About the book

During the past decade heat pump technology has received tremendous interest from the researchers, engineers and manufacturers and great progress has been made particularly in its energy performance and applications. Heat pump which controls temperature by transferring heat (without generating heat) is an energy saving multipurpose technology. For instance, heat pump technology provides an energy efficient way for space (building) heating/cooling. Due to its long term cost-effective performance and applications in various sectors the global market of heat pumps is expanding rapidly. However, despite its well-known working principles and energy saving capabilities, its full potentials are not yet reached and recognized widely for the betterment of the human being as well as for the environment.
This book intends to cover a wide range of important areas of heat pump technology starting from fundamentals, theories, performance to advanced applications. It will also present a state of the art in research and development of heat pumps, their performance and impact in various sectors like social, economic and environment.
The book will be of great interest to engineers, researchers, graduate students, and manufacturers whose study/work/business involves heat pumps.

Publishing process

Book initiated and editor appointed

Date completed: November 20th 2019

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline for chapter proposals: December 11th 2019

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: February 9th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: April 29th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: June 28th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

S. M. Sohel Murshed

Dr. S. M. Sohel Murshed is a professor of Thermofluids and Energy Conversion Technologies at the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) of the University of Lisbon, Portugal. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the Nanyang Technological University of Singapore in 2007. Previously, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at universities in Singapore and the USA. He has so far authored/co-authored 8 books, 23 book chapters, and more than 130 papers in leading international journals and conferences. He has Google Scholar Citations of 5290 with h-index of 27 and several of his papers have been classified as highly cited papers by ISI Web of Science. He is a Portugal national delegate to the management committee of a European COST action on nanofluids and also serves as a group leader of the Action. He is an Editor of the Journal of Nanofluids since 2012 and is an Associate Editor of Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry (Springer). He is also a board member of several other international journals. His main research interests include nanofluids, ionanofluids, micro- and nanoscale heat transfer, thermophysical properties of fluids, nanomaterials-fluids systems, heat exchangers, microfluidics, advanced energy, and cooling technologies.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
