LiDAR (sometimes also written as "LIDAR", "Lidar", or "LADAR") covers a wide range of land management, planning efforts, geo-hazard assessment (including subsidence, surface deformations, lava flows, landslides, tsunamis, see surface monitoring, oil seeps monitoring, floods, etc), forestry, agriculture, geological mapping, and watershed and river surveys.This book is meant to cover LiDAR and UAV topics related to geoscience and environment. The topics should be concentrated on: LiDAR and UAV applications in environmental and geo-sciences, Aerosol LiDAR, Digital terrain model (DTM) LiDAR, Sea surface LiDAR, LiDAR-GIS applications, etc. LiDAR is a surveying method that measures distance from sensor to target, surface/aerosol/sea properties by illumination the target with laser light, and sensing the backscattered light from targets. Time delay of backscattered signal and different wavelength can be used to make 3D digital models of target. LiDAR is similar to RADAR (SAR, InSAR, Pol-SAR) methods, and it can also be used in conjunction with these methods. LiDAR has terrestrial, airborne, on sea, mobile, ground and other applications on which this book will be concentrated.
