About the book

Minimally invasive spinal fusion is one of the fastest-growing areas in surgery. Patients are demanding better treatment for a variety of spinal disorders. Patients expect faster recoveries, better outcomes, and techniques and technologies for treating spinal disorders that reduce surgical complications and post-operative pain. Minimally invasive spinal procedures work to limit damage to normal anatomical structures of the spine that can achieve patients' goals to quick recovery and better outcomes. Surgeons wish to learn minimally invasive spinal techniques and technologies that improve patient outcomes.

This book will focus on innovative techniques and technologies that can be used to improve patient outcomes and have been developed by minimally invasive spine experts. The textbook is well illustrated with the inclusion of a variety of cases. These cases will be presented to show pre-operative patient evaluation and radiographic studies, rational to technique and technology selected intra-operative images, and post-operative images and patient outcomes. It is hoped that this technique will instruct patients and surgeons as to the best operative minimally invasive procedures to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: April 26th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

His experience spans over 30 years. He is Vice-Chairman and Professor of the Department of Neurosurgery, Oakland University William Beaumont, School of Medicine, Royal Oak, MI. He is one of the core faculty for the recently established Neurosurgery Residency Program at Beaumont. He is the Beaumont Neurosurgeon Champion for the Michigan Spine Surgery Improvement Collaborative (MSSIC). Which represents the largest comprehensive spine surgery outcome registry in the country. He dedicates much of his time to the teaching of neurosurgeons, fellows, residents, and medical students. He has served as the Michigan delegate to the Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS) for 20 years, was president of the Michigan Association of Neurological Surgeons (MANS), and holds several administrative positions within Beaumont. Author of the best selling minimally invasive textbooks; Outpatient Spinal Surgery, Minimally Invasive Spine Fusion: Techniques and Operative Nuances, and An Anatomical Approach to Minimally Invasive Spinal Surgery just released in its second edition print, many consider the latter to be the definitive atlas of minimally invasive spine surgery. As an innovator and inventor he is CEO and President of MI4Spine LLC and developed minimally invasive spine technology through Thompson MIS. With well over 30 patents, his inventions have treated thousands of patients overcome debilitating spinal disorders. Additionally, he is president of the Minimally Invasive Neurosurgical Society (MINS,; a nationally recognized organization that promotes improved patient outcomes through surgeon teaching, cadaveric labs, and research to promote minimally invasive spine and cranial procedures. His research focuses on stem cell based disc regeneration and innovations in minimally invasive spine surgery. His stem cell based work has been published in prestigious peer review journals including Neurosurgery, Journal of Neurosurgery, and Tissue Engineering. Born at Walter Reed Army hospital in Washington DC. Dr. Perez-Cruet completed his undergraduate education at Grinnell College, Iowa. He went on to obtain a Masters of Science in Chemistry, from the University of South Florida, Tampa, Florida. After he obtained his MD from Tufts University, Boston, MA and residency in Neurosurgery at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas under Drs. Michael DeBakey and Robert Grossman, he completed active duty military service in the Air Force at Wilford Hall Medical Center, San Antonio Texas. He then completed a fellowship in minimally invasive spine surgery at Rush Medical Center, Chicago, IL under Dr. Richard Fessler. He continues to have an extremely busy clinical practice with main research interest in minimally invasive spine surgery approaches, technology, and techniques. He conducts basic science research on stem cell base intervertebral disc regeneration and holds multiple patents in this area. However, his primary love is his family; wife Donna, a pediatric physiatrist, and children Kristin, Joshua, Rachel, and David.

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors.
