About the book

The emerging nanophotonics from optics deals with the interaction of light with matters at the nanometer scales. It is the subject of many types of research and it covers many disciplines in science and engineering. As it is impossible to focus light at the nanometer scale using normal optical components, we need other techniques like surface plasmonic, metal optic and metal material to confine light at the sub-wavelength scale. Discovery of new phenomena based on quantum principle, development of a large number of nanostructures and nanodevices, the vast application of nanophotonics such as in optical communications, sensing, nanoscale optical sources, and in many other industries, have created a numerous opportunity of new research areas both on scientific fundamentals and technological applications. Nanophotonic structures and devices are the promising future technology that can revolutionize to name a few, the optical communications, energy conversion, integrated information systems, image processing, and sensors in all disciplines, particularly in nano-medicine. This book aims to present a collection of research articles on scientific fundamentals, fabrication, and characterization of devices based on nanophotonics, and on related fields such as plasmonics, and photonic crystals.

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Deadline Extended: Open for Submissions

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: January 10th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: March 30th 2020

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: May 29th 2020

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

About the editor

Concordia University

Dr Kahrizi completed his PhD in the field of applied solid-state physics, in 1985. Currently, he is a professor and a director of the Micro Devices and Micro-fabrications in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Concordia University, Montreal, Canada. Dr Kahrizi’s research and teaching covers a wide spectrum in the fields of Material Sciences, Solid State Devices and Nano-science, which has resulted in numerous high quality journal and conference articles related to material sciences and fundamental issues concerning micro- and nano- structures. He is the Chair of IEEE, EDS, Montreal chapter and a member of Professional Engineers of Ontario. Dr Kahrizi is also a member of the Center for Applied Research on Polymers and Composite, as well as a member of Center for Biorecognition and Biosensors.
