About the book

Due to changing lifestyles and consumer awareness, there is a trend to choose healthy, nutritious and safe food. Therefore, scientists and researchers are focusing to develop functional foods, as an emerging field of food science that claims health-promoting benefits. Functional foods are just like traditional foods but it provides not only proper nutrition but also consider a natural remedy against various diseases due to the presence of bio-active components. Nutraceuticals can be used anonymously with functional foods. The bioactive components present in functional foods and nutraceuticals are sensitive to different processing technologies; therefore, the researcher and scientists are always trying their best to adopt those processing technologies like ultrasound, high-pressure processing and irradiation that minimally affect the bioactive components present in functional foods.

Hence, this book will comprehensively discuss the advancement in functional foods and nutraceuticals, bio-active components and their role against various health-related maladies, modern processing technologies and their affects on the functional components in food.

Introducing your Author Service Manager

Ms. Sandra Maljavac

As an Author Service Manager my responsibilities include monitoring and facilitating all publishing activities for authors and editors. From chapter submission and review, to approval and revision, copyediting and design, until final publication, I work closely with authors and editors to ensure a simple and easy publishing process. I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
