Hypertonicity including spasticity and dystonia is one of the most common types of tone disorder. Spasticity is caused by damage to the CNS including brain and spinal cord causing involuntary and sustained voluntary muscles contraction. Dystonia is a type of sustained or repetitive muscle contraction resulting in twisting, repetitive movement or fixed posture. Hypertonicity and consequent induced complications including gait disturbance, lack of hand dexterity and fine movement, contracture, and cosmetic issues need a holistic and multidisciplinary approach.
