About the book

Worldwide there is an increasing demand for renewable sources of energy due to environmental concerns, which has led to significant research efforts to develop renewable sources of energy including energy conversion, storage and distribution. Undoubtedly, electrocatalysis will play a major role in these efforts. Electrocatalysis is a cross-disciplinary topic, that attracts scientists from various disciplines including chemists, physicists, engineers, biochemists and so forth. The aim of the book is to give an overview of various aspects of electrocatalytic processes. Firstly, it will give a brief description of electrocatalytic processes including industrial electrochemical processes, fundamental electrochemical reactions and emerging electrocatalytic processes.

The book will inform readers on new concepts in electrocatalysis including the design and preparation of an electrocatalyst, developments of highly active, cost-effective, novel and advanced materials in electrocatalysis and advances in electrocatalysis including the hybrid techniques that involve both chemical and electrochemical analysis with new possible concepts that are developed in electrocatalytic processes. Electrocatalysis is applied in various technological electrochemical processes such as fuel cells, batteries, sensor electrodes, electrolysis, organic electrosynthesis and so forth, the book will cover the current state of some of those processes.

Lastly, the book will inform the scientists on limitations/challenges in electrocatalytic processes and their theoretical implications.

Applications to edit the book are assessed and a suitable editor is selected, at which point the process begins.

Chapter proposals submitted and reviewed

Potential authors submit chapter proposals ready for review by the academic editor and our publishing review team.

Register for the book

Approved chapters written in full and submitted

Deadline for full chapters: November 28th 2020

Once approved by the academic editor and publishing review team, chapters are written and submitted according to pre-agreed parameters

Full chapters peer reviewed

Review results due: February 16th 2021

Full chapter manuscripts are screened for plagiarism and undergo a Main Editor Peer Review. Results are sent to authors within 30 days of submission, with suggestions for rounds of revisions.

Book compiled, published and promoted

Expected publication date: April 17th 2021

All chapters are copy-checked and typesetted before being published. IntechOpen regularly submits its books to major databases for evaluation and coverage, including the Clarivate Analytics Book Citation Index in the Web of ScienceTM Core Collection. Other discipline-specific databases are also targeted, such as Web of Science's BIOSIS Previews.

Prof. Lindiwe Khotseng is currently an Associate Professor and a research group leader of Electrocatalysis Research Group, Faculty of Natural Science, University of the Western Cape. Her research interests are: Development of nanomaterials for energy applications (fuel cell, energy storage, solar cells, biofuels), and her research experience: Grant holder to the following project: Development of components for sodium battery (THRIP:NRF), Development of highly efficient electrocatalyst (SA-China grant: NRF, ESKOM: TESP). She has published more than 25 articles in peer-reviewed journals and 3 book chapters. Prof. Khotseng is also a reviewer in various international journals (Electroanalysis, International Journal of Hydrogen Energy, Electrochimica Acta, Helion, ACS Applied Energy Materials, New Journal of Chemsitry, Journal of Electroanalytical chemistry). Additionally, she was invited to act as a member of an Advisory Panel assessing the feasibility, scientific/technical, management aspects and recommend appropriate grant funding support for National Research Foundation (NRF)'s Technology and Human Resource for Industry Programme (THRIP). Besides that, she is a member of Editorial Board for Pisco Med Publishing. She has examined PhD and MSc thesis nationally. Her research engagements also include her being a Keynote speaker, Invited Speaker, and presenter at various international conferences, local workshops, and symposiums. She has supervised/co-supervised 13 Masters and 4 PhD students to completion and mentored 2 post-doctoral fellows in fuel cells research, and is currently supervising 4 PhD and 4 Masters’s students. Prof. Khotseng acted as the analytical chemistry advisory board member at Cape Peninsula University of Technology. Her experience lies in teaching Advanced Electrochemistry (MSc nanotechnology), Applied Chemistry (Hons and 3rd year), Analytical Chemistry (3rd year) and General Chemistry (1st year).

I maintain constant and effective communication with authors, editors and reviewers, which allows for a level of personal support that enables contributors to fully commit and concentrate on the chapters they are writing, editing, or reviewing. I assist authors in the preparation of their full chapter submissions and track important deadlines and ensure they are met. I help to coordinate internal processes such as linguistic review, and monitor the technical aspects of the process. As an ASM I am also involved in the acquisition of editors. Whether that be identifying an exceptional author and proposing an editorship collaboration, or contacting researchers who would like the opportunity to work with IntechOpen, I establish and help manage author and editor acquisition and contact.
