About the book
The book aims to provide a general integrated and balanced introduction to the areas of elevator, escalators and passenger conveyors. These systems will be introduced under the title of ""Building Transportation"".
The book will be ideal for anyone who needs an introduction to building transportation systems, as wells as specialists who want to gain a deeper understanding in any of the relevant subject areas.
The book will distinguish between three distinct areas: traffic engineering, mechanical engineering and electrical engineering. Traffic engineering is of particular importance, as it is the basis for the design and selection of the elevator traffic systems in building, in terms of deciding the most suitable and economical number, speed and capacity of the elevators within the building.
Mechanical components and systems are reviewed including ropes, guide rails, doors, safety gears, overspeed governors, gearing systems and buffer systems. Electrical systems are generally reviewed, including single car controllers, drive systems, motors (including modern permanent magnet synchronous motors), as well as group controllers.
The book also covers the more specialized areas of energy consumption, riding comfort, noise and vibration.
Escalators and passengers conveyors should also be addressed, as these devices complement elevator system in moving passenger around the building.
