About the book

Melatonin is a hormone secreted in the pineal gland, as well as in the gastrointestinal tract, brain, liver, kidney, adrenal gland, heart, thymus, genital glands, placenta, uterus, platelets, eosinophilic leukocytes, natural killer cells, and other immune system cells. This hormone occurs naturally in many living organisms, including humans. This book will aim to present the way melatonin is synthesized in the body, the factors that stimulate its synthesis, and the role of this hormone in the body. In particular, we will aim to look at the effects of melatonin in the body, its bioavailability, and the distribution of its receptors. Various systemic Melatonin effects are intended to be explored, including circadian rhythm, cardiovascular system, gastrointestinal system, reproduction, cancer, oxidative stress, obesity, inflammation, Covid-19, and aging. Also, supplements, including various herbal and synthetic therapeutic agents that can affect melatonin metabolism are of interest. Overall, this is intended to be a comprehensive look at melatonin and its effects on the human body, with a focus on pathophysiology and medical treatments.
